Video: The Price is Right!

If you are a local Utah Jazz fan, you’ve probably the headline “The Price Is Right” a dozen times on the front of the sports section. Ronnie Price has energized the team on both ends of the floor.

Here’s Exhibit B, which as been quickly circulating around the Internet after Game 4 of the Los Angeles Lakers/Utah Jazz series. I know, LeBron James pulled off something similar against the Boston Celtics, but Ronnie Price is 6′ 3″.

In case you missed Exhibit A, it’s good to see that Price and teammate Carlos Boozer can get along on the same team after this dunk of the year.

Certainly, there’s more to come.

Carnival of the NBA #56 is up!

The On Deck Circle hosted this most recent edition of the Carnival. While it didn’t have a specific theme, there were a lot of great posts submitted about this year’s playoffs. Head on over to the Carnival, and find links about playoff ghosts, the science of scoring, and Mike D’Antoni. Definitely some great stuff, take a moment to check it out!

If you haven’t read the Daily Basketball edition of the Carnival (#55), you can find it under the archives section in the menu at the top of the page.

Video: “There Can Only Be One”

The NBA championship contenders have been narrowed down to nine (how about those Atlanta Hawks?). Only one series will go to game 7 in the first round, but only the Denver Nuggets got swept. This year’s playoffs have been full of hard fouls, coaching rumors, underdogs surprising their opponents, and some highly played “There Can Only Be One” commercials. While you’ve probably seen a couple of these a dozen times, you may have missed a few of the matchups.

RSS Awareness Day

Today, Daily Basketball takes a break from the NBA playoffs and awards for a brief public service announcement.

May 1 (that’s today) is RSS Awareness Day. For any of our readers who aren’t familiar with RSS, here’s an explanation from official RSS Awareness Day headquarters:

The main benefit of RSS is that it enables people to stay connected with their favorite websites without having to visit them. Once you subscribe to a particular RSS feed, you will automatically receive updates from the website that publishes the feed, whenever they release new content.

In other words, it compiles posts from your favorite blogs into one convenient place.

Why Should an NBA Fan Check RSS Feeds?

RSS feeds cut down on the time “wandering around” for interesting sports stories. There’s no need to try remembering every cool site you come across. Bookmarks are helpful, but some blogs aren’t updated very often. Instead of checking web sites every day or two, RSS feeds update automatically as soon as a new post is up.

Why Should Sports Bloggers Promote Their RSS feeds?

The Sports Dollar considers considers reading blogs daily an important part of successful sports blogging (see fluff #10). RSS feeds are amazingly efficient for this. While you miss out on the discussion in the comments, you can quickly all of the news in sports over just a few minutes of time.

Not only are RSS feeds important for catching up on the blogosphere, but they are just as important for promoting blogs. You spend a good deal of time working on an exceptional blog post. Don’t you want to make sure your readers see it? With RSS feeds, they are notified the moment it’s published.

How Do I Get Started?

RSS Awareness Day has a basic tutorial.

In addition, here’s a very basic rundown:

  1. Choose an RSS feed reader. Popular choices are Google Reader and BlogLines. It’s quick and easy to create an account.
  2. Find the RSS subscription link, and subscribe. Many blogs link to their RSS with a button or link in the menu, or at the bottom of their blog, and sometimes even in posts. If you use Firefox as your web browser, you probably will see the RSS icon on the far right edge of the address bar (go ahead, check there now!).
  3. Begin reading!
