Ejections, suspensions around the NBA
Baron Davis won’t be on the court for the the first game with his new teammates. Davis received a one-game suspension for taking a swing at the Los Angeles Clippers‘ Quinton Ross.
Davis’ new teammates, you ask? With the trade deadline coming in just a few weeks, teams are having more serious discussions about acquiring players. The Golden State Warriors traded will now have more of a Don Nelson-inspired look with their trade for Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Sarunas Jasikevicius, and Josh Powell. The Indiana Pacers received Mike Dunleavy Jr., Troy Murphy, Keith McLeod, and Ike Diogu. Chemistry will be the issue for the Warriors, while the Pacers may be looking to trade Jermaine O’Neal.
Nazr Mohammed says he has backed off his request to be traded, but several other teams have started talking with the Detroit Pistons about acquiring the disgruntled center. The Warriors look like a front runner for a deal.
The Pistons have some growing heat between coach Flip Saunders and Rasheed Wallace. Saunders and Wallace have tried to quiet any arguments, though Wallace took the opportunity to confront and harass ESPN reporter Chris Sheridan, who first reported “a growing note of discord and disharmony” on the team.
The Charlotte Bobcats are talking about a trade for the Clippers’ Corey Maggette. The budget-conscious Bobcats publicly acknowledge an interest, and mentioned a Toronto Raptors first-round pick could be a part of any deal.
