Kings to let Wells go and sign Salmons

The Sacramento Kings will be the team that finally ends up with John Salmons, according to recent reports. The deal is for five years and more than $25 million. The Kings plan to carry out a sign-and-trade for Bonzi Wells so they can get something in return for the guard once he leaves.

The USA Basketball team for the upcoming tour to Asia will include the following players: Asia are: Carmelo Anthony, Gilbert Arenas, Shane Battier, Chris Bosh, Bruce Bowen, Elton Brand, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Antawn Jamison, Joe Johnson, Brad Miller, Chris Paul, Amare Stoudemire, Dwyane Wade and Kirk Hinrich. The team begins play with an exhibition with Puerto Rico on August 3rd.

Devean George is going to sign for the veteran’s minimum to play for the Dallas Mavericks next season. The deal is worth a little over $1 million, which seems to be quite a bargain for a player who was an important part of the Lakers‘ championship dynasty.

The Toronto Raptors are considering releasing Alvin Williams. The team seems comfortable waiving the injured guard after acquiring T.J. Ford, Fred Jones, and Jorge Garbajosa through multiple deals this offseason.

Kevin Love, one of the top players in the class of 2007, has announced he plans to play for the UCLA Bruins. If O.J. Mayo decides to join USC as currently expected, the two players could easily create an even larger rivalry between the two California teams.

Jones a Raptor; Johnson to Dallas

Fred Jones is going to sign with the Toronto Raptors since John Salmons will no longer be joining the team. Jones was originally a restricted free agent for the Indiana Pacers, but the team rescinded their offer which means Jones is now unrestricted.

You won’t see John Salmons back with the Philadelphia Sixers. Salmons doesn’t seem to have any team actively looking to sign him now, after the three teams being considered before have all found different options.

The Pacers will be receiving Darrell Armstrong and Josh Powell from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Anthony Johnson.

Avery Johnson and Mark Cuban are having a difficult time coming up with a new head coaching contract for the Coach of the Year. Johnson is only making around $2.5 million a year, which is in the bottom third of the league. Meanwhile, the team signed assistant coach Del Harris to a one-year contract.
The Detroit Pistons have told Carlos Delfino that they won’t trade him to any other NBA team. Delfino is unhappy with the Pistons, but the team said the only place they’d let him go would be overseas.

Al Harrington’s new contract with the Indiana Pacers will be for six years and $57 millon, once the trade takes place in the next couple of days.

The Denver Nuggets are going to sign Yakhouba Diawara, a free agent guard from France. Diawara turned down a contract for more money after promising he’d sign with the Nuggets for two years and $1.1 million.

John Salmons rejects Raptors

Without giving much in the way of details, John Salmons and his agent have announced that he will no longer be signed and traded off to the Toronto Raptors for a 2007 second-round pick. Because the Phoenix Suns signed Marcus Banks figuring Salmons was already gone, Salmons doesn’t seem to have any other offers from other teams.

“Do I look like a guy with a foot injury?” Yao Ming seems to have recovered quickly from his broken foot, and was walking around in regular tennis shoes. Though he may still have some rehab to do and may not play for the Chinese National team, he should be able to return immediately to the Houston Rockets this season.

The Washington Wizards hope to win the championship with Gilbert Arenas. Abe Pollin has talked with the star guard and was happy to hear that Arenas doesn’t plan to opt out of his contract in the near future.

The Rocky Mountain Revue ended last night. The MVP of the summer league was the Atlanta HawksMarvin Williams. The other five players creating the All-Tournament team included Utah Jazz draft picks Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap, Seattle Sonic guard Andre Emmett, and the Sixers were represented by Steven Smith and Louis Williams.

Los Angeles Lakers center Chris Mihm will be having surgery on his right ankle to remove scar tissue and will have to wear a protective boot for several weeks before training camp.

Al Harrington returns to the Pacers

Though there aren’t many details, it has been reported by news stations in Indiana that the Indiana Pacers are about to finalize a trade for Al Harrington. The deal is rumored to also include the team’s $7.5 million trade exception, but nothing official has been announced.

Jarron Collin’s new contract with the Utah Jazz is a three-year, $7 million deal, for a player the Jazz feel is a “a true competitor who is passionate about basketball. He’s a professional, on and off the court.”

The San Antonio Spurs received some unexpected good news when they learned that neither the Nuggets or Knicks matched Spurs’ offers on Jackie Butler and Francisco Elson. Over the last several days, it has been reported that both players could be returning to their respective teams but apparently things changed, and now the Spurs have solid players at the center position.

The Sacramento Kings plan to build a new arena in the next few years, after the Maloof brothers agreed to pay over $100 million of the approximate $500 million project.

The Sixers and Raptors are having a difficult time completing the John Salmons deal, which means that Salmons may have changed his mind about playing in Toronto or the Sixers have other plans for the player.

Josh Boone may get a late start to his rookie season after tearing a muscle in his shoulder. The New Jersey Nets are now considering signing another big man to fill the rookie’s role.

Jackie Butler now a Spur

Sadly, one of the most exciting items in the NBA doesn’t involve free agency, but Steve Nash’s new haircut. Nash says he had no particular reason for getting it cut, just that he felt like it.

The New York Knicks appear to have made their decision to let restricted free agent Jackie Butler sign with the San Antonio Spurs. It looks like the Spurs got a bargain as they signed the young center for three years and $7 million.

The Denver Nuggets are desperate to trade Kenyon Martin, and may consider him sending to the Knicks for Steve Francis. A few years ago, teams would have loved to acquire the All-Star point guard but after a few bad seasons with a huge contract, the Nuggets may want to keep looking for another trade.

That other player for the Nuggets may have been Allen Iverson, according to reports in the Denver Post. Though it’s being denied by the Sixers now, apparently the team’s coaches had hoped to make the trade for Kenyon Martin.

There was talk that the Seattle Sonics would be moving to San Jose after being sold for $425 million, but the ownership decided to sell the team for less so they’d have a better chance of keeping the team in Seattle.

Sonics sold to Oklahoma investors

The Seattle Supersonics and the WNBA’s Seattle Storm have been sold for a combined $350 million. The new ownership group says they have no immediate plans to move the franchise, but there are ongoing rumors that Oklahoma City (where the new ownership is based) would like to have a permanent NBA franchise when the Hornets return to New Orleans.

Paul Pierce (who recently signed a three-year, $60 million extension) has come up with a short list of players he’d like to see the Boston Celtics try to acquire. Pierce gave his approval over the talks of bringing in Allen Iverson if possible and he also told the Boston Globe he’d like them to go after Carlos Boozer and Morris Peterson.

The Milwaukee Bucks are struggling to trade Jamaal Magliore. After acquiring Charlie Villanueva to play next to Andrew Bogut, the team has been actively trying to trade the former All-Star. GM Larry Harris is reluctant to just give away the center, and hopes to get a player in return that is at least equal in value.
A quick round-up of the signings taking place in the NBA: the Phoenix Suns are going to get Marcus Banks for five years and $21 million. Vassillis Spanoulis is about to sign a three-year deal for over $5 million which will give him one of the largest second-round rookie contracts in history. The Washington Wizards intend to keep Jared Jeffries. Nene seems to be having second thoughts on signing his deal with the Nuggets. Alexander Johnson and Leon Powe each signed their respective rookie contracts with the Memphis Grizzlies and Celtics.
